week 2

Monday morning and I had a lovely activity to start...horse riding 😃
We drive to look for the horses then herded them back to the paddock for a rub down before going on our 1 and a half hour trek. I had Indi, who was not keen on the rub down but was wonderful to ride.
We saw the whole group of 14 giraffe, Zebra and oryx, and couple of Springbok and an ostrich.

Monday afternoon I had the fun job of animal cage cleaning...exactly as it sounds, picking up poop and dried food, cleaning out  then topping up water wholes.
Tuesday bright and early Tommie, Pingu and I headed off to Rhino Rangers for the rest of the week. This is sleeping in the reserve with the Wild animals in tents.
We started off dumping our stuff and heading straight out to find rhino's, I'm happy to say we got lucky and found one after around an hour. He was lovely, only about 8 metres away.

We then went back for lunch before heading out again, we didn't see anything for a while but then got told we were being picked up to go see the lions who had just made a kill 😃
We also bumped into the elephants on the way.

Wednesday morning was breakfast then elephant tracking, we heard them before we saw them as they were having a fight with each other. By the time we got to them they were very angry to see us and Ace even charged at us, elephants aren't small, especially when they are only about 10 metres away!

After lunch we were packing up to go sleep under the stars for the night, however can you believe as we got to camp the heavens opened so we had to cover all our stuff to keep it dry and hope it stopped...it didn't! However Haiki our guide told us in his tribe you are blessed if it rains on you so early in the year, so turns out I'm blessed as he said we were honorary tribe members 😇
We were picked up at 9pm as we could not walk back in the dark and stayed in our tents again.
Thursday was Lion tracking day, we set off very early and after 3 hours we heard rather than saw the lions. The male was approximately 6 metres in front of us behind a bush and when we got close he growled so loudly and made a dash for us, it's the most amazing thing I've ever heard.  We soon realised while we were trying to back away from him, his ladies were attempting to surround us. It was such a crazy, exciting experience to find out we were being hunted. Lions are extremely clever and you dont see or hear them move.
After about 300 metres they got distracted by something other than us so we made a speedy getaway.

After lunch we did another Rhino tracking, we got lucky as we also stumbled upon the elephants again who were happy to just walk by this time and then we found a mother Rhino and her baby.

We finished off the day with a final night drive then headed back to our little camp under the stars for round 2.  I'm happy to say it didnt rain and we all had a great sleep.

Rhino Rangers was a very fun, interesting experience,  I had no idea I would know so much about different animal tracks and I am now an expert on poo 🤗
We got back to the farm Friday morning asmnd wee finally able to take a shower then afternoon activities started again.

I walked Misty the beautiful caracal, turns out even the slightly bigger cats hate going in a carry box,  she made us work for it.

That's It for now. I will let you know about my weekend later.
I'll the best 🤩
