The rest of the week!
Day 4 was small animal food prep, sounds easy but not really!! We had to mix 4 huge tubs of slushy corn with fresh cut up veg (also prepared by us) in a bah tub, it was hard work but actually quite enjoyable. We then had to cut up the meat and chicken for the meat eaters (meerkats, polecat, mongoose, goats and monkeys).
After lunch and the one I've been waiting for, Cheetah walk, wow it didn't disappoint, we walked 3 beautiful boys, Bolt, Bullet and Flash for around 100 metres then got to sit with them in the shade for 3 hours, they were so content they even purred, amazing 😍
I was able to get within half a metre of them as I was told they had approximately 2000 spot...challenge accepted. I got to 1600 but wasn't willing to count all the way under the belly! Best afternoon so far!
Day 5 We started the day by going to watch the local school assembly, it was lovely, we even got up and danced with them at the end. I was then back at K9 for my actual groups job in the morning, I was able to spend a lot more time with the dogs and even experienced what it would be like to be a poacher, I think that'll be something I never go into as those dogs will rip me apart in seconds, but it was fun to give it a go in the huge suit.
Baboon walk after lunch, due to a problem with the babies we only got to walk the older ones, however that didn't stop one of them jumping straight on me and peeing all down my back while pocking me in the eye! I'm told it's good luck so I'll forgive it. We sat with them for a couple of hours by their favourite tree and got to see a giraffe walk right by us and a couple of ostrich too. Another relaxing afternoon.
Saturday morning some of us decided to help out with food prep and carnivor feeding, not everyone wanted to but we are here to help so we did. Pingu and I had the difficult task of getting the frozen meat out, it was hard as the only way to seperate it was to smash it on the floor!
In the afternoon, some of the guides made up fun games for us, so Tommie and I joined Richard to make a team. We started with apple bobbing, Richard and I were terrible but gave it a good go, Tommie got all but one of ours out! This was followed by water balloon tossing, Tommie and I managed 9 metres before our balloon pooped, not the worst, then we moved onto charades, here is where it got interesting as 2 of each team had to act out and 1 had to guess. Team one got Vulchor(sp) easy, team 2 got helicopter, easy, team 3 got giraffe, easy, then we got Medusa...as you can probably guess we didn't win that round either!! I laughed so much it was such a fun afternoon.
We then played volleyball with the guides for a couple of hours before dinner, which was followed by a very relaxed enjoyable evening sitting around the camp fire.
Today Pingu, Blueberry, Tommie and I took a trip into Windhoek for a guided tour. We started at Parliament gardens, then the German Church, followed by the Independence Museum. We were then taken to meet some women from the Himas tribe (the booby ladies as we now call them) they hardly wear any clothes and they never wash in water, if they feel they are dirty they wipe themselves in this red mud...each to their own! Befo
We had a trip around an African craft shop then ended up in Joe's bar, great recommendation Martin 😃 for a beer and late lunch.
A very nice way to spend a Sunday.
We are now all shattered and are having an early night ready for jobs in the morning.
